Art talks:
10:45 – 11:15 – Sally Riley , Ceramic Artist and Pottery Tutor
Clay. Pause. Create.
Sally talks about how working with clay not only provides an opportunity to create something unique, the process also connects our mind and body. Clay changes with our touch and our breathing naturally slows to the gentle rhythm of shaping the clay. Sally discusses how this tactile experience calmly keeps us in the present moment, triggering parts of the brain that affect our wellbeing through the movement of our hands.
12:44 – 13:15 – Sophie Sophie Smorczewski
Light and Longing: A painters response to the intricacies of nature.
A talk exploring painting from memories of a rural upbringing that are distorted by time and influenced by emotion. Smorczewski talks about her struggles with illness, the physicality of making work and how her paintings have a heightened reliance on the natural world.
14:45 – 15:15 – Amanda Taylor
Why? And So What?
Art is subjective, both for the painter and for the viewer. Amanda talks about her art journey and practice, and why she makes art at all. Amanda will answer the ‘Why?’. You can answer the ‘So What?’ yourselves.
