Mike Waldron
Born 1964
Mike is a painter and printmaker, now settled in Bollington, Cheshire, midway between the wilds of the Peak District and the uber-urban modern metropolis of Manchester. Mike was born and raised in East Manchester during the 1960s and 70s, where he witnessed great social change, learnt about community, found beauty in dilapidation and became fascinated with people, music and nature.
Mike first discovered his passion for painting in infants’ school, producing endless versions of imaginary churches in poster-colour on sugar paper. Despite an absence of any religious conviction, he has continued to be drawn to ecclesiastical buildings, particular those in disrepair.
Mike is fascinated by the beauty to be found in dilapidation and has consistently sought to capture the relationship between people, the built environment and natural landscapes. A recent discovery of sea-faring ancestry in the West of Ireland, may account for a parallel fascination with the crests and troughs of wild seascapes.
