Born Liverpool

Graphic Design at Stockport College

Originally from Liverpool, Sue studied Graphic Design at Stockport College and built a 15-year career as a graphic designer in London, winning awards for her exhibitions and print designs. Alongside writer Nick Asbury, she is one half of creative partnership Asbury & Asbury.

Since relocating from London, Sue has made the transition into fine art, while retaining a design sensibility that is evident in her graphic compositions and simplified forms. Abstract works are built up through many layers, often incorporating collaged elements, while figurative works include local landscapes, expressing Sue’s interest in the everyday and the passing of time. Mark-making and the drawn line are two common areas of exploration within her work.

Sue works from her studio in Bollington on the edge of the Peak District. In 2021 she delivered a solo exhibition at The Old School Gallery, Alnmouth; a forthcoming solo exhibition will be held at Spring Cheltenham in June 2022. Sue’s art works have been shortlisted for the RWA Open 2021, New Light Prize Exhibition 2020-2021 and Manchester Open 2020.
