Megan is a Manchester based artist whose works are produced with oil paint on canvas. The relationship between photography (including found images) and painting is a particular area of focus for Sparkes. For example, she considers photographic techniques such as cropping, angle and light direction important tools in the painting process. Sparkes’ practice focuses on figuration and employs themes of escapism, nostalgia and memory. Through her use of source material, whether that is from screenshots or first-hand photographs she intensifies a narrative through reproduction and encourages her paintings to picture elements of everyday life and the meaningful moments between human movement and intimate interaction.
Megan graduated from Manchester School of Art with a First Class degree (Hons) in Fine Art, 2021.
