Rachael Addis
Rachaels practice is fundamentally a mark making process in which she creates abstract landscapes by applying a multitude of painted layers and patterns to the surface of canvas and paper.
My practice involves working with acrylic, oil and ink to create visually beautiful works full of mesmerising detail. Distinctive mark making in my paintings has been described as ‘visual sound’ due to its meditative and rhythmic nature. Zen Buddhism, Eastern philosophical thought and pioneering Abstract Expressionists have profoundly influenced my style and attitude to the painted surface. My work has become both meditative and compulsive, pushing me both physically and mentally.
As a process painter I allow repetition to play a part in the slow unfolding of a finished piece. An experienced teacher of over 20 years, I understand the technicalities of creating art and am able to teach others how to do the same. I am proud to have worked on a multitude of projects, exhibiting widely and having my work selected for many prestigious accolades and prizes.
