“Sue’s artwork is a response to either feelings or emotions or to visual stimuli from which she abstracts the elements that provoke interest.”

Sue Roberts

Established artist

Creativity has been a central and essential part of Sue’s life. Although an only child, she had the great joy of being surrounded by a creative family and creative ancestors. Whether it be ‘crafts’, painting, photography, garden design, interior design – how things looked and how they were made really mattered.

After school Sue regretted not taking her place to study 3D Design/Silversmithing at university, life took her in a different direction. Twelve years later when both sons were at school she started a City & Guilds Course in Creative Embroidery.  Four intense and fabulous years later, on ‘graduation’, Sue joined the Cheshire Textile Group (now disbanded) and exhibited nationally and internationally both with the Group and in solo or smaller group shows. After leaving the Group in 2002 she exhibited nationwide with two fellow artists until 2006.

Sue’s artwork is a response to either feelings or emotions or to visual stimuli from which she abstracts the elements that provoke interest. Photography and sketchbook work can be the starting process but it can also be through direct play, exploration and experimentation. It’s all about expressing the magic!

Painting is now Sue’s main focus rather than textiles. More recently Sue has been working with acrylic paint, predominantly on birch panel, and she is slowly investigating oils and cold wax as an alternative, more environmentally-friendly, medium.
