About Sheila
Sheila Scholes has an extraordinary gift for seeing beauty where others might not, an intuitive eye for the potential hidden beneath the surface. For Sheila, renewal is more than a profession; it’s the very rhythm of her life. Whether breathing new life into a forgotten property or standing before a blank canvas, Sheila is driven by an innate urge to restore, reimagine, and infuse the world with vibrant energy. This sensibility has shaped her dual path as both an artist and a restorer, where history is honoured, originality celebrated, and beauty brought vividly back to life.
Creativity pours from Sheila’s soul, it colours every part of her world. Her life is a richly woven tapestry of interiors, art, and travel, each thread feeding the next. Alongside her husband, Sheila has spent decades transforming neglected historic homes into places of warmth, wonder, and character; including the once-unloved Houghton Manor and now a new project in Great Budworth. Together, they live a beautifully unconventional life, joyful, curious, and deeply creative. That same spirit is found in Sheila’s paintings: expressive, intuitive, and unapologetically bold. She never paints from reference, never erases, and believes there are no mistakes in art – only moments of discovery. Her recent work explores vibrant oranges and soft peaches, capturing the radiant optimism at the heart of her artistic vision.
With a background in textile printing and a creative reach that has spanned internationally, Sheila has exhibited in galleries throughout the UK, including the renowned Penwith Gallery in St Ives. Her role as a trustee of the St Ives Art Club also speaks to her longstanding dedication to the art world.
More than anything, Sheila is a visionary – intuitive, ahead of her time, and joyfully unafraid to follow her own path. Her creative life serves as a gentle reminder to find delight in the small things, to see beauty in the overlooked, and to nurture the playful, curious spirit that often gets lost in adulthood. Through her art and the spaces she brings back to life, Sheila shows us that joy isn’t a luxury – it’s essential.
